This
collaboration between the Friends and Ottawa County's Parks and Recreation
Commission allows participants to help maintain the parks they may already
be enjoying. Just think how good you will feel by exercising and taking care
of the environment at the same time! This
opportunity is available to persons 18 or older who apply for positions as
volunteers to visit and monitor assigned park properties on a regular basis,
(usually weekly) either seasonally or year-round. In larger parks, teams
will be formed to share responsibilities.
Selected applicants will be asked to attend a brief
interview and sign an Ottawa County Volunteer Services Agreement. They will
also be offered no-cost Friends' membership and benefits for one year. Call
the Parks office at 616-738-4810 for a list of parks where monitors are
currently needed.
It is very
clear that the efforts of these volunteers greatly magnify the efficiency of
parks staff in keeping the parks and open spaces clean and
accessible. Additional volunteers would further enhance staff's
capabilities, particularly as new properties come on line.
Please consider becoming a park
monitor and enjoy a year's free Friends of Ottawa County Parks family
membership. Think of the additional reward you will get from exercising
your body and supporting a healthy county parks system at the same time!
